Aaron Elkins does not disappoint. I’ve read fourteen of fifteen Gideon Oliver mysteries he’s written, and loved them all. Every one of these books starring the Bone Detective is riveting, fast-paced, and intellectually engaging. The plot in Make No Bones turns on “one highly unusual supernumerary [tooth] between canine and bicuspid” (an extra tooth in the mouth) and on a skull hidden in a “soil-compaction site” (a shallow grave) for over ten years. See how much you’ve learned already? And aren’t you hooked enough to find this book right now and start reading?
Not only do I learn a lot about bones and forensics and anthropology every time I read a Gideon Oliver mystery, I enjoy every minute of reading it. Elkins crafts plots with twists enough to keep me guessing. His characters come alive on the page easily and completely, and we can always count on the quick wit and instincts of wife Julie and the doggedness of FBI pal John to add more fun and thrills, whether we are in Hawaii, Europe, the Amazon (Little Tiny Teeth refers to piranhas) or in the continental United States.
Do not hesitate, jump right in and read every last one of the Elkins books. You’ll be educated, confounded, and fully satisfied.
