Reading and reviewing one book a day for one year

From October 28, 2008 to October 28, 2009, I read one book a day and wrote about each book I read here on my site. I wrote about what I felt while reading the book, what I responded to, and what I gained. I also offered some assessment of the book but my reviews are not typical reviews. Travel through my site and see what I mean.

Tolstoy and the Purple Chair is my memoir of reading a book a day for one year and it is also about a life of reading, on my own, with my sisters and my parents, and with my own children.

You don't have to read a book a day to find the same fulfillment from reading that I did in my year of intense reading. Just read every day and find your own moments of wonder and wisdom and joy.

Start a book group (see my list of great books for book groups). Read with your kids. Share books with friends.

Don't worry about reading the latest releases or the books everyone else is talking about. Roam around my site and find a book that interests you, then get it and read it. Read for twenty or thirty minutes every day (or more!), 365 days a year. Your life will become richer, and your days more layered with exhilaration and curiosity and gratitude than you ever thought possible. Because great good comes from reading great books.
